Psalm 22
Psalm 22
God! Where have You gone?? You have abandoned me. You are miles away - cant You hear my groaning? Ive been crying all day but You haven't even heard. I've been crying in my bed at night but You haven't been listening.
But You, the God who inhabits the praises of Your people, are holy - our forefathers trusted in You. They trusted and You delivered them: they cried to You and You saved them. They werent ashamed to trust in You.
But Im not like them. Im nothing. Nobody. Im ridiculous - people despise me; they walk past and say ' Ha! Look at him. He trusted in the Lord - lets see if the Lord will rescue him now since he's always telling us how great He is!'
But You are the one who took me out of my mother's womb. From infancy I trusted in You. You have been my God for as long as I can remember. Please don't distance Yourself from me because trouble is near and there is no one to help me. Im surrounded on all sides by violence and an enemy who wants to devour me. I've got nothing left. Im totally spent. Even my bones are out of joint and my heart has totally melted within me. Im so weak - parched and thirsty. You have brought me to the very brink of death. Because the dogs have surrounded me - Im enclosed by wickedness. They have put nails in my hands and feet and lashed me until they can see my bones. They stand and stare and now they are dividing my garments amongst them and are casting lots for my clothes.
SO Lord please dont be distant! You are my strength and I need You to come quickly to help me. Deliver and rescue me from the sword and the dogs and the lion's mouth.
Ha! You have answered me!!!
I will tell my brothers about You and I shall once again praise you in the congregation. Everyone who fears the Lord praise Him! Jacob and Israel glorify and praise Him because He has not ignored and despised my affliction. He hasnt hidden His face from me - when I cried to Him He heard me.
I shall praise you in the great congregation and I shall do what I promised I would do in front of witnesses. The poor shall eat and be satisfied. Those who seek him will praise the Lord and their hearts will live forever. All the ends of the earth will remember what He has done and will turn to the Lord and all the families in every nation shall praise You because He is king over all the nations. Everyone on earth who prospers shall worship. Those who are dead and dying shall worship. There will always be people to serve Him - always be stories passed on down the generations telling of His glory to people yet to be born.
